What is Stinging Nettle?
Stinging Nettle or Urtica Dioica is an herbaceous perennial plant that thrives in wet climates and moist soils. It is grown globally in Northern Africa, Europe, Asia and rampantly in the United States.
It can grow up to 6 feet in height and is covered with needle-like hairs that cause a stinging sensation when contacted with skin. That is how the name of this abrasive plant came to be.
Nettle is a member of the Urticaceae family, which includes as many as 500 species worldwide. The earliest documented use of Nettle is in Ancient Egypt where civilians used the leaves topically for a variety of wellness purposes.
It has been featured in a variety of supplement formulas and is touted by herbalists for its mineral and polyphenol content. It’s often combined with Burdock Root, Yellow Dock and Dandelion for a synergistic effect
